Alexander Thomlinson
Musical Director/Bass Vocalist
Alexander Thomlinson began his musical journey at the age of eight, immersing himself in the vibrant realms of bluegrass and country music. His formative years were marked by a dedication not only to performing but also to honing his skills through participation in numerous fiddle competitions across the eastern United States. From 2006 to 2009, he distinguished himself by claiming three titles as the Georgia state fiddle champion, along with two titles each for Kentucky and Alabama.
As he developed his musical prowess, Alex expanded his repertoire by learning guitar and banjo, which allowed him to collaborate in various bands. At the age of sixteen, a pivotal moment arrived when he joined his high school's Varsity Singers, igniting a passion for choral music that would shape his future. This newfound enthusiasm led him to pursue a bachelor's degree in choral singing and performance at Piedmont University.
During his undergraduate studies, Alex sought to deepen his understanding of composition, leading to the achievement; he became the first student to win the GMEA Composition Competition at the collegiate level for two consecutive years. In 2017, he embarked on a master's degree in theory and composition at Westminster Choir College, where his skills in singing and collaboration flourished.
Throughout his time at Westminster and beyond, Alex had the honor of performing alongside world-class musicians in prestigious venues. Notable highlights of his career include two performances at Carnegie Hall, one of them being with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, nine collaborations at the Kimmel Center with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and six performances at Lincoln Center with the New York Philharmonic. In 2019, he was appointed as an artist in residence at Oxford University for their summer choral conducting program, further solidifying his commitment to excellence in the choral arts.
